SAMBA GOAL MASTERS: Top 6 BEST Scorers in Brazil National Team History

Brazil is the most successful country in the World when it comes to football. They have won a total of five World Cups the last coming in 2002. The current team has already qualified for Russia 2018 showpiece after failing to win it on home soil in 2014. Today, we take a look at the best scorers in the country history.

6. Bebeto- 39 goals

The World came to know Bebeto in 1994 when he formed a formidable partnership with Romario to help Brazil lift its fourth World Cup trophy. He was a lethal finisher. He also played a key role in 1997 when his country won Confederations Cup. He emerged top scorer in 1989 when the Samba boys lifted Copa America crown. In a total 75 caps, he netted 39 goals.

5. Neymar- 52 goals

Neymar will certainly break Pele national team record before he retires. The striker has netted 52 goals in only 79 caps so far. He is only 25 year. This means if he goes ahead to play for Brazil until maybe age 35, he will be able to set even a higher record.
The forward is currently is setting his own records in football. Last summer, he switched from Barcelona to PSG for a World record fee of €220 million. It is a record that nobody expects to be broken anytime soon if ever. He also helped his country lift the elusive Olympic Gold medal in 2016 games at Maracana. It was an achievement all other legends failed to realize. However, Pele record of three FIFA World Cup (1958, 1962, 1970) might never be broken.

4. Zico- 52 goals

Zico is ahead of Neymar in the list simply because he only needed 71 caps to score 52 goals. The 25-year-old forward needed 79 to score the same goals so far.
The former attacking midfielder was nicknamed ‘White Pele’ because he had similar skills. He was a master in creativity as well as goal scoring. He played for Brazil in the famous drought spell between 1970 and 1994 meaning that he did not win any notable trophy.

3. Romario- 55 goals

Rio de Janeiro current senator Romario is an icon in Brazil football history. He was the main man in 1994 when the Samba boys lifted the World Cup for the fourth time. He was also in the team that lifted Confederations Cup in 1997. The legendary forward netted 55 times in 70 caps for his country. Neymar only needs four goals to overtake him but the caps are against him. He was elected in 2015 and he is doing a great job for the Capital City.

2. Ronaldo de Lima- 62 goals

World Cup 2002 will always be remembered because of Brazil number 9 Ronaldo de Lima. He made it his own to deliver the fifth World title for the Samba boys. He retired a long time ago but we still remember his exploits in front of goal. He was a young player in the team that lifted the trophy for the fourth time in 1994.In 98 caps, the lethal attacker netted 62 goals for his country.

1. Pele- 77 goals

Pele is not only a legend for Brazil but football in general. He is an icon recognized in every part of the World. You don’t need to know how he looks, you just hear his name mentioned anywhere football goes. Pele scored a total of 77 goals in only 92 caps for Brazil. It is a wonderful return for a striker.
The legend helped the Samba boys lift FIFA World Cup three times in 1958, 1962, and 1970. Neymar might beat his goal record soon. However, we can agree he can’t deliver three World Cup trophies. So the master will remain at the helm.
