World Cup comes every four years. The entire globe stops to watch the very best from all corners of the earth. All teams chasing the ball for the ultimate glory. The last showdown was held in the South American nation of Brazil. Germany lifted the coveted trophy. We will all remember the semi-final clash between the hosts and the Champions. It ended 7-1 in favor of the Europeans. We will certainly never forget that but the locals are still traumatized by it.

8. Philipp Lahm- 20 matches


Bayern Munich fullback Philipp Lahm skippered Germany in the last World Cup in Brazil. He retired from international football immediately after the glory. He was a natural leader and the World Champions will certainly miss him.

7. Cafu -20 matches


Cafu remains Brazil all-time most capped player with 142 appearances. He played in four World Cups between 1994 and 2006 winning two of them in 1994 and 2002. He played his club football in Sao Paolo and Roma and AC Milan in Italy among others.

6. Władysław Żmuda- 21 matches


Poland may be enjoying the returns of their current star man Robert Lewandowski but there is a man in history they remember and his name is Władysław Żmuda. The 62-year-old played when the country had a golden generation. He played his club football at Śląsk Wrocław, Widzew Łódź, and Hellas Verona among others.

5. Uwe Seeler- 21 matches


Germany has many legends but what many people never tell you is that most of them come from the former West Germany. One of them is certainly Uwe Seeler. He made 72 appearances for his country and 21 in the World Cup.

4. Diego Maradona- 21 matches


Argentina will always remember 1986 World Cup but the only thing they will indeed never forget is the man who helped deliver the success. His name is Diego Maradona. He is known all over the World and actually he is up there with Pele. In fact, he is regarded as the best footballer of all time by pundits, journalists, and writers. He was great and he is an icon across the globe. He made 21 appearances in the World cup.

3. Paolo Maldini- 23 matches


Italian legend Paolo Maldini happens to be one of the players former Manchester United Coach Sir Alex Ferguson regrets not signing. The defender was special in so many ways and his former and only club AC Milan knows it. He won all titles available in football including the World Cup in 2006. He made 23 appearances across four tournaments.

2. Miroslav Klose- 24 matches


World Cup all-time top scorer Miroslav Klose with 16 goals has 24 appearances in the tournament having played in four showdowns since 2002. He helped Germany win the showpiece in 2014 in Brazil and retired from international football shortly after achieving his dream. He also overtook Brazilian striker Ronaldo in the goal charts. The 38-year-old has now retired from football and he is now part of the national team coaching staff.

Germany has many legends and this list has certainly shown that is entirely a fact, now there is one special man called Lothar Matthaus and then there are others. He was the Captain of West Germany side that lifted 1990 World Cup title. He was also named European player of the year in the same year. He certainly has a special place in the history of the game
