Manchester United are reportedly preparing a move for AS Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy, as Luke Shaw replacement at Old Trafford.
Frenchman, 22, is said to be a January target for the Red Devils, who are likely to face competition from Serie A side Napoli for his signature.
However, same report suggests that Napoli will put off making a bid for Mendy until the summer, leaving United free to make an approach this month for the former Le Havre starlet.
It is claimed by Tuttomercatoweb that Mendy is open to a move to the Premier League, despite signing a five-year deal when joining Monaco from rivals Marseille in June 2016.
The defender came in for criticism from Mourinho earlier on in the season for his defending against Watford and there’s been speculation that Shaw will leave this summer.
Luke Shaw could be handed second chance to prove himself
But on the hand, Metro claims Jose Mourinho is ready to hand Luke Shaw second chance to prove himself at Manchester United.
- Jose Mourinho failed to sign Luke Shaw from Southampton while at Chelsea due to player’s valuation.
- Mourinho has not played Shaw since the 4-1 win over West Ham United in November.
- The 21-year-old cost the Manchester United around £27million in the summer of 2014.
- United face Stoke City on Saturday, before clashes against Hull City, Wigan and Leicester.
- Shaw could make the bench for Saturday’s clash and could start in the side’s EFL Cup semi-final second leg with the Tigers in midweek.
