David Haye’s rematch with Tony Bellew on December 17 is off after the heavyweight was forced to withdraw due to injury.
Rumours of a potential injury to Haye last week circulated, but Matchroom denied the fighter had communicated to them he was unable to compete.
But, Haye has indeed picked up an arm problem just days after he insisted he was 100 per cent fit.
Haye underwent surgery on a torn bicep on Monday, but has no intention of retiring from boxing.
Bellew and Haye were scheduled to fight on Sunday night on December 17 in London in a rematch of their March 2017 grudge match.
The rematch will go ahead in the new year and Haye fully expects to return to action after a short recovery period.
March 24 and May 5 are being targeted for potential dates, but Bellew confirmed to Metro.co.uk he would not be fighting on December 17 against a replacement opponent.
Bellew pulled off a shock upset and had promised to end Haye’s career in the second fight.
Haye suffered a serious injury in the first fight when he snapped his Achilles and underwent surgery directly after the loss.
The heavyweight has also had surgery on a shoulder injury in the past, but the 36-year-old has been told he can resume training in two weeks.
