Chelsea loanee Fankaty Dabo scores incredible 40-yard own goal for Vitesse

Chelsea loanee Fankaty Dabo had a match to forget as he scored an own goal so bad it ought to qualify for the Puskas award, with his error sparking a monumental collapse.
Dabo’s Vitesse side – which features a host of Chelsea players – were leading away at Groningen and appeared to be in control of the match.
But when the young defender received the ball by the touchline, and close to the half-way line, little could anyone have guessed that seconds later the ball would be in the back of the net.
Under pressure from Gronigen, Dabo looked to play the ball back to his keeper but got a little too much weight on his pass and it ended up looping the goalkeeper and dropping in just beneath the crossbar.

His teammates could not believe what they had seen, standing around awe-struck as the ball dropped over the stranded goalkeeper, and it clearly affected them in the rest of the match.

Having been a goal up at the hour-mark, they conspired to concede three more times in the next 22 minutes, ultimately losing the match 4-2.
The result means Vitesse drop to sixth place in the Eredivisie table and are now 14 points behind runaway league leaders PSV.

In total, four Chelsea players are on loan at Vitesse (they have 33 players loaned out in total).
American centre-back Matt Miazga also started alongside Dabo, while Mason Mount – who came on in the last 10 minutes of the match – and Charlie Colkett were both on the bench.

Dabo’s own goal drew comparisons with Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson, who suffered a similarly embrassing moment in a pre-season friendly against FC Koln back in 2011.
And that begs the question…
