Luis Suarez has risked the wrath of Liverpool supporters by talking up Philippe Coutinho‘s proposed move to Barcelona.
Coutinho, 25, handed in a transfer request at Anfield ahead of the 2017/18 campaign, in the hope of securing a move to the Nou Camp, but the Reds rejected several bids from the Catalan giants for the Brazil international.
Asked what Coutinho could bring to Barca, the Uruguay striker told Mundo Deportivo: ‘A lot. I know him as a person and as a player because I played with him, but everyone knows what Coutinho can contribute.
‘He is a footballer, who today, plays at a very high level.’
Coutinho has gone on to score four goals for Liverpool this term and Suarez has praised the midfielder’s character.
‘Obviously he would have [wanted the move] because he’s a player who has ambition and any player would want to come to Barca,’ he added.
‘He went through a difficult and very complicated moment but as a professional he continued to show how good a player he is and the personal quality he has.
‘Despite trying to leave Liverpool he continued helping the team and working.
