5. Madrid President speaks about De Gea
Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has spoken for the first time about Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea. The 26-year-old has recently been linked with a move to Santiago Barnabeu.
The Los Blancos top executive believes ‘Someone is messing around’ with the Spaniard keeper. He has however not ruled out anything.
“Someone is messing around there with De Gea,” Perez said.
“We’re not going to deny everything that comes out about transfers.
“We won’t work on any signing until the end of the season. Everyone is really happy with Keylor Navas.”
4. Rooney attack Van Gaal in Mourinho praise
Manchester United Captain Wayne Rooney has directed a sly dig at former boss Louis Van Gaal. The Red Devil skipper claimed current boss Jose Mourinho has brought back the winning mentality.
United are cuurently 6th in the Premier League table. They have not lost a single match in 15 outings. They are now putting serious pressure on the five teams above them.
‘He’s obviously a top manager – I think his record at all the clubs he’s been at shows that,’ said Rooney.
‘I think he knows what he wants from the players, and the players know what the manager wants from them.
‘He’s strong in that sense but as long as you’re doing what he wants, then I’m sure you’ll be fine.
‘I think you can see he has got a winning mentality – not that we didn’t have that already, but he’s certainly reminded us of that.’
The Reds record goal scorer is not a regular start anymore but his attitude will certainly increase his chances of getting more playtime.
3.‘Mourinho wanted me’-Willian
Chelsea winger Willian has revealed Manchester United wanted to sign him last summer. This happened few weeks after his former boss Jose Mourinho took over at Old Trafford.
“There were enquiries, yes. It was from Manchester United, because Mourinho is there too.
“From other clubs I don’t know but there are always some things on the internet. I’m glad to hear that there are clubs that admire my work.”
The 28-year-old also talked about the current exodus of fellow South Americans to China in recent years. Ramires, Pato and Oscar switched to Chinese Super League. So is he planning to head to the Far East?
“I do not know if I would go or not. What I can say is that I’m happy at Chelsea, I feel very good there, like it’s my home.’’
2. De Gea speaks about Madrid links
Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has spoken for the first time about rumor linking him with Real Madrid move. The Spaniard almost joined the Los Blancos in the summer of 2015. However the deal collapsed in the last hours of the deadline day.
“The future nobody knows,” De Gea said.
“The future is the future. I’m very happy here, it’s a great club. In England, football is enjoyed a lot.”
When the reporters pressed him to explain whether he might consider the move in future, the Spaniard sprung up.
“I’m not going to talk about that.
“I will not talk about that subject any more. I just have to keep focused on my club.”
The 26-year-old shots stopper believes top four is a possibility but the title is for Chelsea to lose at the moment.
“I think we’re in good form. We’re on a 15-match unbeaten run in the league and we’ve won the last two matches [in the FA Cup against Wigan and the Premier League versus Leicester],” he said.
“The team’s doing well, we must continue down this route to get into the top four as soon as possible.”
1. Man United blame BreXit for debt rise
Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has blamed BreXit vote on the rise of debt by £71.6 million.
The Red Devils increased by 27.1% between September and December of 2016 to stand at £409.3m. The Club is however optimistic the year results will be better starting this February when the club plays the final of EFL Cup.
“We are pleased to be competing for the first available trophy of the season when we travel to Wembley to face Southampton in the EFL Cup final this month,’’ said vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
“The robustness of our business model continues to be reflected in our strong quarterly financial results and we remain on track to deliver record revenues for the year.”
