Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has hinted he wants to return to the English Premier League side anytime soon.

The 38-year-old who is also Chelsea’s all-time record goal scorer is currently without a club as his contract with New York City FC expired.

Although he intends to play once more for the Blues, the former England captain admits he does not think such move will happen.

When asked about a possible return to Chelsea, Lampard told the Daily Mail: "In an ideal world, yes. But I don't think that's reality. I have to think about myself.

"I’m finally going to start my coaching badges next week at B level. The FA are trying to help, FA technical director Dan Ashworth has been in touch. I know he's also helping Stevie Gerrard.

"There are opportunities to make it a quicker process than it was before. That would be great. I'll be in football. There is also media work. I've got respect for what you do."

With 147 goals for Chelsea in his 429 appearances for Chelsea, Lampard is the record goal scorer for the club.

He was later loaned to Manchester City in 2014 and made his debut for the club on September 13 of that year in a 2–2 away draw against Arsenal.

In January 2015, he signed a pre-contract to play for New York City FC in Major League Soccer.

New York City FC announced on November 14, 2016 that Lampard would leave as soon as his contract is finished. He scored 15 goals for the club in his 31 appearances.
