Arsene Wenger should have sold Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez last summer, according to Wayne Rooney.
Ozil and Sanchez have both entered the final years of their contracts at Arsenal and are no nearer to extending their deals.
Germany international Ozil has been linked with Premier League rivals Manchester United and former club Real Madrid, while Sanchez is expected to leave for either Man City or Paris Saint-Germain.

Former England captain Rooney believes the talented duo will leave Arsenal and has questioned their motivation and desire ‘when the going gets tough’.
‘With the two of them not signing contracts in the summer, I think that told you everything,’ the Everton star told talkSPORT.

‘The way it is, I don’t think they will be at Arsenal [next season].
‘I feel they should have taken the money and looked elsewhere because, although they are top players and it is difficult to let those players leave the football club, when the going gets tough – as it is at the minute for Arsenal – you want players who want to be there and you can put your trust in.
‘If they are not going to be there at the end of the season, maybe there are a few question marks.’
Despite Ozil and Sanchez running down their contracts, Wenger remains hopeful that his players will still be at Arsenal when the January transfer window closes.

Asked at the end of last month whether he could rule out selling either or both of Sanchez and Ozil in January, Wenger said: ‘Yes, I rule it out.
‘I do not think every day about that. At the moment I think, as long as they are here, they have to give their best for the team and for the club.

‘In my head, they stay until the end of the season. That was the decision taken at the start of the season – unless something unbelievable happens, I don’t think it should change.
‘They are going into the final year of their contract. Will they stay longer? That is impossible to answer today but they have a contract until the end of the season.’
