Ragnar Klavan has joked he never sees Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah in training – because the Egypt international is so rapid.
Salah has become an instant hero at Anfield following his summer move from Roma, scoring 14 goals in 18 games for the Reds.
The 25-year-old, who endured a difficult first spell in the Premier League with Chelsea, has been one of the players of the campaign so far and has five goals in his last three appearances.
Salah has clearly won over his new teammates at Liverpool and Estonia defender Klavan says he has developed into a ‘very important player’ for the team.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash at Sevilla on Tuesday night, he said: ‘Mo is a great player, I don’t actually see him in training because he’s so fast!
‘He’s been really good since he came and especially now he’s scoring important goals. He’s a really important player for us.’
Liverpool can secure their place in the next round of the Champions League with a win over Sevilla, having taken eight points from their first four games of the group stage.
‘Tomorrow’s game is going to be really important,’ Klavan added. ‘These are decisive moments in the group stage and we want to go further in the Champions League.’
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp also heaped praise on Salah ahead of Tuesday’s fixture, telling reporters: ‘I really like Mo and I like his goals but we don’t have to talk too much about him.
‘I’ll be more interested in his statistics for tomorrow night [rather than his record this season].
‘The performance [on Saturday] gives us a good feeling for the next game. I’ve played here with Mainz and Dortmund. The atmosphere is famous… how good it is depends on the performance of the away team.’
