Lyon vs Everton LIVE: Express Sport brings you all the latest Europa League scores, news and updates
LYON 0-0 EVERTON
HT: The game really struggled to get going again after that nasty injury to Cuco Martina. Lyon seeing most of the ball but Everton have responded to Unsworth’s urgings and look defensively compact.
Atalanta are still winning 1-0, but that doesn’t really change much as the Toffees only go out if they lose against Lyon.
51: Ouch! Bloody hell that looked painful. Ashley Williams ploughs into his own goalkeeper and Pickford goes flying. The Lyon supporters cheer but fortunately the stopper is alright.
49: Former Chelsea forward Traore breaks forward before shooting at Pickford from outside the area. The Toffees stopper makes the save.
47: Marcel gets ahead of Holgate at a corner but he’s not connected with it properly and sends it wide.
SEVEN MINUTES ADDED TIME
45: Play resumes as Martina is taken off on a stretcher. Basic is on and will presumably operate as a right-back with Kenny moving over to the left.
42: Martina has been down for several minutes now and is still receiving treatment. This looks very, very serious. Mo Basic getting ready to come on.
39: Memphis Depay vs Jordan Pickford… the goalkeeper wins. Depay fizzed a 25-yarder that needed to be tipped over.
Worrying scenes for Everton as Cuco Martina, who landed heavily. All the medical staff are on the pitch and looking at his head/neck.
He’s going to be stretchered off. Fingers crossed he’s alright.
36: I’m sorry to inform you that Atalanta are leading against Apollon Limassol.
Things almost go from bad to worse as Mason Holgate almost slices a clearance into his own net, but fortunately for him, the flag was up.
33: I watched Everton’s match with Leicester on Sunday. Unsworth’s side were the better side in the second-half without ever really looking like scoring. They just look devoid of confidence and creativity.
29: There’s no outlet for Everton. Lennon and Lookman are having to track-back constantly and there’s nobody to support Siggy. Fakir, who’s been linked with Arsenal recently, meets Raphael’s cross but volleys it high into the stands.
26: Maybe I spoke too soon. I did speak too soon. Depay plays a cracking ball into Traore, who forces a good save from Pickford. The Everton stopper is called into action a few seconds later to tip away the rebound.
25: And Atalanta still aren’t beating Apollon Limassol. The good news just keeps on coming, eh?
24: On the bright side, Everton look a lot more defensively organised tonight. The normally free-flowing Lyon have found it difficult.
21: Lennon guides Kenny’s forward pass into the path of Sigurdsson, whose first-time strike trickles to the goalkeeper. Think it might have taken a nick off the defender on its way through.
18: The stadium isn’t even nearly full and it’s one of the loudest grounds I’ve ever heard. Have BT Sport turned up the microphones or something? Lyon have had more of the ball, but neither side has created anything in these opening stages.
15: Lyon bossing this one. They’re switching it from side to side as Everton hunker down for a long evening.
13: So it looks like we’ve got midfield maestro Gylfi Sigurdsson playing as a central striker tonight. It’s not really looked like working so far, although he did just swing a free-kick into the area that almost found Ashley Williams.
10: Just stupid. Minutes after being warned Cuco Martina drags Cornet to the floor. Booked. Just 80 minutes to last, Cuco.
8: Martina clumsily brings the tricky Fekir down just outside the area, and the resulting free-kick almost finds the unmarked Diakhaby at the back post. That’s a warning.
5: I may have spoken too early about Ashley Williams. His first touch was greeted with a chorus of boos from Lyon supporters.
3: No early signs that there’s any real bitterness about Ashley Williams’ antics at Goodison Park a fortnight ago. I probably wouldn’t provoke him either.
I’ve just heard that this starting XI has scored a combined three goals this season.
LYON 0-0 EVERTON
1: And we’re underway folks. Can David Unsworth put his stamp on this Everton side? Or will his audition end in tears? Let’s find out.
