Glenn McGrath has hailed Mitchell Starc as the ‘most dangerous bowler in the world’ as the Australia star made history in the build-up to the Ashes series against England.
Left-arm fast bowler Starc, 27, became the first player to take two hat-tricks in a single Sheffield Shield match this week as he helped New South Wales beat Western Australia by 171 runs.
The paceman claimed figures of four for 56 in the first innings after taking the final three wickets and repeated the feat to become only the eighth bowler in history to take twin hat-tricks in a single match.
‘When he’s on fire and swinging that new ball, he’s the best bowler in the world, the most dangerous fast bowler in the world,’ legendary Australian McGrath told BBC 5 live Sport.
‘The pace he bowls and the length he bowls makes him so dangerous. It’s good to see him bowling well, Australia need the bowlers to bowl well against England.’
Starc will have a huge role to play if Australia are to win the Ashes and the hosts’ chances have been boosted by the news Ben Stokes is unlikely to feature in at least the first two Test matches.
England’s vice-captain was arrested in September following an incident in Bristol and Starc has urged the home fans to ‘get stuck into’ him if he does make it to Australia.
‘I guess I’d love if he was out here. I’d love for the Australian crowd to get stuck into him the way the Poms [English] get stuck into our blokes over there,’ Starc said last month.
