5. Mesut Ozil is motivated at Arsenal – Arsene Wenger
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that Mesut Ozil has proven that he is motivated to perform for the Gunners, despite persistent speculation about his future.
With less than a year remaining on his contract, Ozil has been heavily linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium.
The German international had been making his first start in six weeks. But Wenger has praised the 29-year-old condition after his return to the side.
The Frenchman told reporters: “He’s in a very good shape at the moment physically. He’s focused and motivated so I would say yes.”
“What people question is their commitment (Alexis Sanchez and Ozil) I didn’t and what happened on Sunday proved that even more.”
4. Eddie Nketiah will get chances in Arsenal first team – Arsene Wenger
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that he is looking for opportunities to integrate academy prospects into Premier League action.
On Tuesday night, 18-year-old Eddie Nketiah came off the bench to score a double. The youngster’s goals earned the Gunners a 2-1 victory over Norwich City in the EFL Cup fourth round.
Wenger told reporters: “He will continue to get a chance. The biggest problem in the Premier League is for the first time since I’m in England that we have a consistent level of results in the youth teams.”
“That means the quality is there and the next step is to integrate them in the league.”
3. Jack Wilshere assured of England spot by Gareth Southgate
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has reportedly been assured of his spot in the England squad after impressing for the Gunners since returning from a leg injury.
Wilshere made his first Premier League appearance for 14 months last Sunday. The England international playmaker came on as a substitute in Arsenal’s 5-2 defeat of Everton.
The 25-year-old assist in that fixture has consolidated an impressive return to action for Arsene Wenger’s side.
According to the Daily Mail, England boss Gareth Southgate has assured the midfielder of his place in the national side.
The Three Lions qualified for the World Cup with their 1-0 win over Slovenia. The Southgate’s side have international friendlies against Germany and Brazil scheduled for November.
2. Stuttgart midfielder reveals he held talks with Arsenal
Stuttgart midfielder Berkay Ozcan has claimed that Arsenal are keen on signing him during the January transfer window.
The 19-year-old has already made 26 appearances in all competitions for Stuttgart; while the Turkish Under-21 international’s performances have led to interest in his signature.
Ozcan told beIN Turkey: “My agent and I are in talks with Arsenal. Arsenal have been scouting me for the past two years and send representatives to watch my games.”
“I am not sure if now is the right time to join Arsenal, it may be a bit early for me. I want to prove myself here and keep developing first.”
“Ultimately, Arsenal is the club I want to join in the future, god willing I will achieve my goal.”
1. Barcelona fear Arsenal could pip them to transfer
Barcelona reportedly fear Arsenal could be about to beat them to two of their transfer targets next summer.
According to Mundo Deportivo, sporting director Marc Overmars could be about to move from Ajax to take up a similar role at the Emirates at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, The Catalan source claim Barca are interested in Ajax duo Kasper Dolberg and Matthijs de Ligt. But Overmars could also be keen to bring both players with him to the Emirates Stadium.
It remains to be seen if Overmars will indeed end up taking a role at Arsenal. Although, the Daily Mail reported earlier this month that the Dutchman, who spent three seasons with the Gunners during his playing days, was set to return to his old club.
Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger has not worked with a director of football before and has previously sounded reluctant to do so.
Mundo Deportivo claim Barcelona have some reason to fear Overmars’ move to Arsenal. And it may require them to speed up the process of signing either Dolberg or De Ligt before too long.
