For this and more take a look at Reds news making headlines today;
5. Mourinho praise King Zlatan
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has praised his striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic for scoring a hat-trick against Saint-Etienne on Thurday night. The big Swede grabbed his 17th career hat-trick against the French side. His goals give the Red Devils a healthy lead ahead of second leg way from home.
“He has scored so many hat-tricks in his career but this is a first for Manchester United,” the ‘Special One’ said.
“We know that it is more difficult in England, we know clearly that it is fantastic for him.
“But the important thing is the result and the important thing is that we managed a clean sheet at home, which is important, and to score three goals is a good advantage for us.
“We can try to manage with that.”
The Reds will now shift focus to FA Cup fifth round away clash against Championship side Blackburn Rovers.
4. Wayne Rooney is a Legend already
Manchester United legend Bryan Robson believes Captain Wayne Rooney is already a Red Devil great. He has lavished praise on the 31-year-old terming him a special talent that will only be properly honoured when he is gone.
The England skipper broke Sir Bobby Charlton 40-year-old record to become club best scorer. He also broke the national team records held by the same man. He has won all trophies available in club level in a career spanning 12 years at Old Trafford.
“To break the records that he has broken at international level and at Manchester United, you have to be a special talent,” said Robson.
“I don’t think people are putting him up there with the greats at United but that’s what happens when you’re still playing.
“He’s been in and out of the team but for me when he retires in years to come, people will call him a great player.
“He will get that status but when a player is still playing they don’t get the accolades that they should get.”
3. Keane slams Pogba for showing too much Brotherly LOVE, Really?
Manchester legend Roy Keane has slammed World most expensive player Paul Pogba for showing too much love to his brother Florentin. The two brothers faced each other at Old Trafford after dominating the build up all week.
The Red Devils emerged victorious thanks to hat-trick from Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The spot light was however directed towards the two siblings. They embraced and exchanged few words at the tunnel before kickoff. They did the same at half time and full time.
“The boy, Pogba, he’s a bit of a free spirit, a bit of a character. But I think it was a little bit over the top tonight – before the game and at half-time,’’ said Keane.
“They’ve spoke more tonight than I have to any of my brothers [Keane has three siblings; Denis, Pat and Johnson] in the last five years.
“It’s all a bit strange. I think when the game started they were focused on the game.
“But all this stuff before and after the game, a lot of nonsense – but that’s the modern player I’m afraid.”
2. Man United reach Sir Alex defensive heights
Manchester United has won three consecutive European matches without conceding a single goal. The Red devils last achieved the same milestone in 2010 under former boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Jose Mourinho side did not concede a single goal against Zorya Luhansk and Feyenoord. Last night Zlatan Ibrahimovic continued the great run with a well taken hat-trick.
1. Zlatan scores 17th Hat-trick of his career
Manchester United thrashed Saint-Etienne 3-0 in Uefa Europa League last 32 first Leg tie at Old Trafford. All the goals were scored by none other than Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He opened his account on the night via a deflected free-kick. Then Marcus came on to assist his second and then the referee gave him a penalty in 87th minute.
The tie looks like it’s over already. The French side should have done their home work. The Swede scored 14 goal in 13 games against them during his time at PSG. He added more misery on them because they will need to score four goals to progress.
‘Every time I play against them, with luck it’s brought me a couple of goals,’ Zlatan said.
‘That’s how it is. It’s not something I focus on, I scored goals again.
‘Hopefully I can do something again next week and we can go further in the Europa League.’
