5. Xabi Alonso doubtful for Arsenal match after limping out of training
Bayern Munich could be without Xabi Alonso for Wednesday evening’s Champions League tie with Arsenal after picking up a knee injury in training.
The 35-year-old has left the training field on a golf cart following a challenge from his teammate Javi Martinez.
Alonso is now one of the list of absentees as Jerome Boateng and Franck Ribery, who will miss out the game.
Arsenal make the trip to Bavaria knowing that they have not progressed beyond this stage in Europe’s showpiece competition since 2010.
4. Granit Xhaka faces no further police action over alleged racial abuse
Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka will face no further action after Metropolitan Police officers concluded their inquiries into allegations that he racially abused staff at Heathrow Airport.
It was alleged that the Switzerland international had insulted an airport worker after a friend he had taken to Heathrow to board a flight was refused entry because they were late.
The incident reportedly occurred just 24 hours after Xhaka’s straight red card in Arsenal’s Premier League win over Burnley.
A statement said: “Police were called at 19: 29hrs on Monday, 23 January following an allegation that a member of staff had been racially abused at Heathrow Airport, Terminal Five. The allegation was made by a third party.”
“Officers attended and spoke with a man in his twenties. Xhaka was not arrested. He voluntarily attended a west London police station where he was interviewed under caution. He was released with no further action.”
3. Arsenal senior man will not play against Bayern Munich
Arsene Wenger will drop under-fire goalkeeper Petr Cech from Arsenal to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The Telegraph report that the Arsenal boss is poised to keep the faith in second choice goalkeeper David Ospina.
The Colombian has played all six Champions League matches of their group-stage this season and will return to the starting line-up for Arsenal’s biggest game.
Petr Cech has been the No.1 goalkeeper at the Emirates Stadium following his move from their rivals Chelsea in 2015.
But David Ospina is the one who plays in cup competitions – including Europe.
Cech has come under fire in recent weeks for his performances, making several crucial errors as the Gunners slipped to back-to-back defeats against Watford and Chelsea.
2. Arsenal to battle Italian side and EPL rivals for Toulouse goalkeeper
Arsenal and Watford have entered the race to sign Toulouse goalkeeper Alban Lafont, who is a Burkinabé-born French professional footballer.
TalkSPORT say Lazio are leading the chase for the 18-year-old wonderkid. However, the Premier League rivals are now showing an interest.
Lazio also want to sign Lafont this summer so neither Arsene Wenger or Walter Mazzarri can afford to drag their heels.
Lafont has shot to fame in France by becoming Toulouse’s No.1 at such a young age.
1. Eddie Howe delivers early injury status for on-loan Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere
Wilshere came off with an injury during the first half of Bournemouth’s 2-0 defeat to Man City on Monday night.
The sight of the on-loan Arsenal midfielder left the pitch immediately sparked concerns over the injury-prone Englishman.
“Jack is just feeling his ankle. I don’t think there’s a major injury there,” Howe said. “He just felt he couldn’t move as freely as he wanted to and had a pain in his ankle, so we took him off.”
